Town Hall
Meeting - Bigger and Better!
Continuing to respond to the needs of
the Saint Cecilia community, the Parish & School
Development (PSD) committee is hosting the next Town
Hall meeting on Thursday October 16th, 7:00pm, in
the parish center. In direct response to your
feedback from previous meetings we've expanded the
format so come see what the buzz is all about! And
did we mention door prizes??? Read on...
Somewhat by definition a parish "town
hall" meeting has to cover the basics -- financial
health of the parish, update on PSD activities, and
input about the new school year -- but we're
introducing a more spiritual dimension too,
including a featured speaker and a spotlight on
activities related to October as Respect Life
month. Also of special interest this time around,
though setup off-stage and active throughout the
meeting, will be the revamped TRIP program.
Significant changes have been made to TRIP, and
you'll like what you hear whether you have children
in the school or not. This is a big deal, folks!
Just remember, when visiting the TRIP table please
register for the gift cards that will be given away
at the close of the meeting.
The town hall will begin at 7:00 p m
but please come early and spend a little time with
representatives from the various ministries while
you enjoy some light refreshments. Child care will
be provided. Mark your calendars now!
St.
Cecilia Adult Education - The Year of Saint Paul
In celebration of the Year of Saint
Paul, St. Cecilia's Adult Ed ministry will offer a
6-week series on this Apostle to the Gentiles.
Sessions will be in Meeting Rooms A&B after 9:30
Mass on Sunday (during PSR, 10:50 to 11:45 a.m.).
Using passages from Saint Paul's letters, we will
learn and exercise several methods for reflecting on
scripture.
All adults are welcome to attend any
number of the sessions; we hope you will find your
way to at least one. Note that childcare will not
be provided. For additional information, or to
offer help, please contact Jane O'Loughlin at
870-9427 or

COMMUNITY
BILLBOARD
LENDING A HELPING HAND:
On Sunday, October 19, our parish will join
others in the Catholic Diocese of Columbus in
observance of World Mission Sunday. We are
called by the Church to special prayer and sacrifice
for the missions of the world. An envelope to help
support the missions is in your monthly packet.
A Food Pantry Collection
is scheduled for the weekends of October 4 & 5
and November 1 & 2. Please bring your
donations to the Gathering Space. New to the parish
and unsure what to donate? Foodstuffs should be
non-perishable and in boxes, cans or plastic
(please, no glass jars!) and with unexpired use-by
dates. The pantry can also use donations of toilet
paper, toothpaste, and deodorant.
TRIP NEWS:
The TRIP program will become available to St.
Cecilia parishioners in October! The TRIP program
is a fabulous opportunity to support the parish and
religious education programs all without spending
any extra money. More information will be presented
at the Masses in October. We are currently
gathering a team of trusty volunteers. If you are
available to sell gift certificates at one Mass per
month, please contact Kim Jackson 851-8389. A great
opportunity for volunteer hours!
BREAKFAST FOR VOCATIONS:
The Knights of Columbus Council 5899 will be hosting
a "Breakfast For Vocations" on Sunday, October 12 in
the School Hall from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. The
breakfast will consist of: Plain or Blueberry
Pancakes, Hashbrowns, Egg Strata, Sausage, Sausage
Gravy/Biscuits, Juice and/or coffee. The cost will
be $4.50 - Adults, $3 - Child (12 and under), $17 -
Family (2 adults and up to 4 children). The
proceeds of this breakfast will go to the Knights of
Columbus Vocations Program.
ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION:
We are currently looking for a boys/girls basketball
commissioner(s) for the upcoming season. Anyone
interested, contact Dan Siesel at 614-870-8859.
WE INVITE ALL
to spend 30 or 60 minutes in prayer at the
Monthly Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
Join others in the Day Chapel on the First Friday
and Saturday of each month. Sign-up sheets are
available in the Gathering Space the preceding
weekend if you wish to commit to a particular prayer
time. On October 3 & 4, our special prayer
intention is victims of abuse and neglect. The
prayer intention for the November adoration
(November 7 & 8) is for the deceased.
ST. CECILIA MOMS’ GROUP
invites you to join us on Wednesday, October 22 at
9:30 am. We are in Meeting Rooms A & B and kids are
welcome. Any questions, please call Michelle
Gentner at 527-7475.
TIME CHANGE:
Daylight Savings Time ends this year
on Sunday, November 2. So please reset your clocks
to “fall back” an hour before going to bed on
Saturday, November 1. This might also be a good
time to change the batteries in your carbon dioxide
and smoke detectors, if you didn’t do so in the
spring.
NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING
INFORMATION NIGHT: A
diocesan-certified NFP teaching couple will discuss
the Myth and Reality of Natural Family Planning at
an NFP Information Night on Wednesday,
October 22, 7 - 9 PM, in Meeting Rooms A & B. For
more information about this event, NFP or diocesan
NFP workshops, contact the Marriage and Family Life
Office, (614) 241-2560 or
FLOMailbox@colsdioc.org.
IT TAKES A COMMUNITY!
Like to prepare (or buy) food?
Eating together is an important part of community.
Reaching for the same cookie or selecting the piece
of cheese are great conversation starters which may
develop into a profound pondering of the Holy
Trinity or Catholic calisthenics. RCIA inquirers
are typically strangers to each other and to the
Church: Chips and dip may open the door. Call
Winnie McFarland if you can provide a snack some
Monday evening (274-6511).
How about praying for a particular
inquirer? Call Carlene
Hamilton (878-5221) to get the name of an inquirer
which you would “adopt” as your prayer partner.
Then pray for that individual throughout the year –
that he/she will hear God’s call and act upon it.
You would do this on your own time and in your own
way: no meetings, no dues, no formula!
Or accompany an inquirer in
his/her journey toward Jesus.
It takes more time to be a sponsor, but along the
way you will be participating in Jesus’ command to
spread the Gospel, and your own faith may be
awakened. Sue Baker (853-9379) is the contact.
“May all those who have already been
claimed for Christ draw others to the Lord and,
through the rites and prayers of this ritual, force
greater bonds of unity in the Church.” (Rite
of Christian Initiation of Adults)
THE SPIRITUALLY ADOPTIVE
BABY PROJECT
Your spiritually adopted baby is now
7 months old. He now uses the four senses of
vision, hearing, taste, and touch. He can recognize
his mother’s voice and sees changes in light and
dark. His skin is less wrinkled now as fat begins to
fill out his contours. He is able to regulate his
body temperature. His brain is enlarging rapidly
and its sections are taking on their specific
lifetime roles. The baby’s lungs are capable of
breathing air, although medical help may be needed.
FALL CRAFT SHOW
St. Cecilia's Annual Fall Craft Show
is Saturday, October 18th from 9 am – 3 pm.
Do you have your ADVENT wreath candle
refills? Come visit the Fall Craft Show.
New this year, we will have Advent
candles and several other Advent-related items.
Several parishioner vendors and many
other vendors will have a great selection of
Thanksgiving and Christmas items, fabric crafts,
candles, gift baskets, jewelry, handmade cards, baby
items, buckeye items and much more.
We also have a yummy lunch menu, and
lots of baked good items. We hope to see you this
year at this great event.
INFORMATION ON MASSES COMING UP

a weekend this year, the Holy Day Mass Obligation is

THE RIGHT TO LIFE AFTER BIRTH
If ever you wrong them
and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry.
(Exodus 22:22
25. The right to life
implies and is linked to other human rights—to the basic
goods that every human person needs to live and thrive.
All the life issues are connected, for erosion of
respect for the life of any individual or group in
society necessarily diminishes respect for all life. The
moral imperative to respond to the needs of our
neighbors—basic needs such as food, shelter, health
care, education, and meaningful work—is universally
binding on our consciences and may be legitimately
fulfilled by a variety of means. Catholics must seek the
best ways to respond to these needs. As Blessed Pope
John XXIII taught, “[Each of us] has the right to life,
to bodily integrity, and to the means which are suitable
for the proper development of life; these are primarily
food, clothing, shelter, rest, medical care, and,
finally, the necessary social services” (Pacem in
Terris, no. 11). (Forming Consciences for
Faithful Citizenship:
A Call to Political
Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United
States,
November 2007)
